Weiter geht's Work in progress

Do you remember the photo with the white thickened resist? Here I posted the next step, one layer of colour. Working between planning and accident is that what I love: a dialogue in design processes, not knowing where we are leaded by the fabric, the technique or the colours. Some steps are decisions, some are not...

Zurück aus Berlin Back from Berlin

Back from Berlin. I teached a workshop about design at the quilters guild of Berlin and Brandenburg and some of my artquilts were part of a small exhibition. It was a fantastic day and even if the afternoon is to short to teach this subject, we had fun and inspiration.
Many thanks to the students, who jumped in this adventure of a short workshop. I think it's easier to have the whole weekend to design than a four hours hurry-up. If you like to see some photos about the students work see http://ankesgarten.blogspot.com/ . Anke took some pictures and posted them on her blog, thanks for this, Anke!

The picture above is a photo I took in the small museum of the Baumwollspinnerei, where I'm working. I found the ancient "Fixiersalz" there. This let me think about my next week, where I 'm going to work on my Artcloths again. The difference: I'm using Soda ash...

Kleine Arbeiten Small work

Here some pictures of my small works. To have always interruptions in working time leeds me to work small. I call this "between" work done in "between" time...

Kleine Studien Schichten Layers

What to do first? colouring, line, shape ??? Doodling on paper is a bit faster than on fabric, but the results are the same, except the drying processes.

Kleine Studien:Farbe Work studies in progress: colour

Some colours work very well together. Good to have the digital images to save the combinations.

Flexibles Material

I'm experimenting with materials like plastic or other flexible things. Sewing is possible with a lot of materials. I'm interested in the variation of colour and visuals structures and what limits you have by sewing...

Fotos folgen! Photos are coming soon!

Mixed media

After some days of dyeing, I continue working with the small works. What happens if you let you lead by the structures of the mixed media piece? How much do you plan, how much do you guide the processes? and how much is it possible, where are the limits of planning?
